Things to do to become an IHOA Official

1. Visit USAHockey.com and register as an “Ice Official” .Your cost will vary ($45-$100) depending on level you are applying for. New officials apply for level 1.

2. Log onto MidAm.org and select a seminar you will attend (see announcement below).  All officials must attend a seminar in order to officiate in the IHOA. (There is no cost incurred to sign up).

3. Attend one of the Central Indiana seminars  Sep. 14th, 28th, or Oct. 5th at Westfield Arctic Zone.
($30 Seminar fee includes lunch, ice time, & T-shirt).

4. Complete the closed book exam at the seminar(for officials applying for level 2 or 3).

5. Turn in a current W-9 and Contractor Agreement form.

6. Complete the online open book exam issued by USA Hockey.
(This must be completed by Nov 30 to stay current).

7. Notify IHOA and schedulers when all is complete.

IHOA is pleased to announce it 2008-2009 USA Hockey Officials' seminars.

Would you like the opportunity to be part of a hockey game and get paid? Did you referee hockey last season, and want to again? If not, do you want more information about becoming a hockey referee? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then let us talk to you about refereeing ice hockey. Three seminars are scheduled at The Arctic Zone in Westfield in September and October to help you become a valuable member of our officiating corps. As a member of the Indianapolis Hockey Officials Association, you’ll have the chance to skate, see great competition, and put yourself in the position to officiate local, state, and national tournament games. To attend a seminar, sign up at http://www.midamref.org. Select 'seminars' from the District Events menu.  Determine the seminar you wish to attend and click the 'register for this seminar' icon.

All officials are required to attend one of these seminars to become eligible to officiate USA Hockey games. You must bring a notepad, a pencil, and your full officiating uniform (including a current USA Hockey crest, properly attached). If you are a new official you are not required to wear an officiating uniform if you do not have one yet, but please bring a wind suit, helmet, hockey skates, and a fingertip style whistle. All returning officials must be in full Referee gear for the on-ice session.
